Maria Della Croce has lived in Massachusetts for most of her life. She is passionate about women's social issues and has a fervent interest in exploring the subjects of racial and economic equality; the concerns of the LGBT community; the environment; and the proliferation and trivialization of violence in all forms of media.
Maria Della Croce's career as a writer/director began in 1993 when she was hired as a writer/videotape editor and on-camera reporter on a local-origination newsmagazine program in Salem, Massachusetts. There she interviewed local news-makers and city and state politicians and got her first taste of what it takes to tell a story quickly and succinctly.
Maria's next opportunity to write and produce for television came in 1996 when she took on the job of writer, graphic-designer, and voice-over talent for a Boston-area cable program about the local real estate market. During her time as the creative force behind the show, its success skyrocketed, more than doubling the revenue it generated, becoming a model for similar programs nationally.
In 1999, motivated by a newly-focused interest in directing, Maria began writing and directing television commercials and public service announcements airing on the major cable networks (CNN, MTV, VH1, TNT, USA, ESPN, etc.) in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Maria has over fifteen years of experience as a copywriter and has directed hundreds of productions with professional and non-professional talent alike. One of her greatest skills is her ability to put the people in front of the camera at ease so that they deliver open, compelling, humorous, sometimes intimate, performances. With knowledge of all aspects of video production from shooting, lighting, and sound recording, to graphic design and non-linear editing, she also possesses a well-rounded understanding of the entire process from pre-production through post-production.
Although her client list is long and her projects varied, the one common thread found throughout Maria's work is an unwavering focus on honest, non-stereotyped portrayals of women. Because of this, she has earned a reputation as a keen communicator of female-centric issues and a successful designer of female-targeted advertising.
Among her greatest strengths is her ability to create engaging and polished productions even within the constraints of stripped-down budgets and lightning-fast turnaround times.
Maria's writing and directing skills have been recognized locally and nationally in the form of numerous awards including several Communicator Awards, New England Cable Television Awards, and Telly Awards.
